Polite Ways to Fire an Employee

No one likes firing people, especially those employees which you hire yourself. Still, at times you have to let people go, but I think the best way to do so is politely and respectfully. So what polite ways do you guys use or know of, to fire an employee?

Tip 1 - Give them a warning and a chance to make it right before you finally fire them.

If you are not satisfied with an employee's performance, you should give him/her a chance to make it right and get back on track. Only if the employee fails to heed your warning, you can fire him/her politely.

Tip 2 - Offer help in finding another job

The most you can do when firing an employee is to offer help in finding another suitable position. You can forward his/her CV to your own contacts or network and recommend him/her positively.

Tip 3 - Do it personally and privately.

Don't fire an employee in front of other staff and give him the news in private and in person. You owe your employees this respect and they will appreciate you for it.
